What is The GED (General Educational Development) Test?

The GED (General Educational Development) test is a series of exams intended to measure the knowledge and skills equivalent to those gained from high school education in the United States.

GED allows students who didn't complete high school the opportunity to earn a certificate that is internationally recognized as equivalent to a high school diploma.

Certificates for international students are issued by the District of Columbia's Education Department.

The GED test consists of four subjects:

  1. Mathematics: this covers algebra, geometry, and basic mathematical skills.

  2. Language Arts (LA): this includes reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and language skills.

  3. Social Studies: this area covers history, economics, geography, and civics.

  4. Science:  subject includes biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth & space science.

The GED test, initially created in 1942, has seen numerous revisions and updates. The most recent updates happened in 2014 in the U.S. and in 2017 globally..

These updates resulted in a more comprehensive GED program, with the test being fully aligned with the college and career standards established by the U.S. Department of Education.

These updates qualify the test to be accepted worldwide, hence the many universities that accept GED in Malaysia.

  1. Taylor's University

Established in 2016, the university offers a range of programs such as business, economics, engineering, and Chinese studies.

  1. International Medical University (IMU)

International Medical University (IMU) is the first established private medical and healthcare university in Malaysia, focusing on the training of healthcare professionals.

IMU is a leader in medical education in Malaysia, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and allied health sciences.

To register for the GED test in Malaysia, candidates must follow these steps:

  • Create an Account on the GED Website

Visit the official GED website (ged.com) and sign up for an account. 

  • Choose a Test Center

After creating your account, you can search for authorized GED testing centers in Malaysia. 

  • Schedule the Exam

Candidates can select their test date and time for each subject. 

  • Pay for the Exam

In Malaysia, the fee per each subject is around $80, which you can be paid online through the GED website.

  • Take the Test and Check Results

After the computer-based test is complete, results are usually available quickly after completion of each subject test.
