In the first year, students in the banking and finance program will acquire fundamental skills necessary for professionals in the industry. They will develop a basic understanding of business management and finance while also being introduced to the fundamentals of Financial Technology (FinTech). Students will also be exposed to business and communication skills, accounting skills, and management skills. This level aims to provide students with a strong foundation in the core principles of banking, finance, and emerging FinTech trends.
Moving into the second year, builds upon the foundation established in Level 1 and offers a broader range of skills and knowledge. Students will gain a better understanding of banking instruments, procedures, regulatory frameworks, and the overall financial system environment. They will also receive hands-on training in the underlying technologies that drive FinTech solutions. Additionally, students will be exposed to new FinTech solutions, such as digital currencies and peer-to-peer lending. They will also familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of data mining techniques. Independent learning skills will be nurtured to prepare students for the workplace and further research opportunities.
During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. It provides students with valuable practical experience in a real-world setting, enhancing their understanding of banking, finance, and FinTech in practice.
In the third year, students will leverage their previous studies and industrial experience to delve deeper into the governance, risk management, and compliance aspects of financial technology. They will explore theories related to the globalization of banking and finance in the context of Global Banking and Finance. Additionally, students will focus on the empirical application of Robo Advisors and Entrepreneurial Finance. The aim is to groom students as leaders in the field of financial technology. The final year project will require students to explore a topic individually, demonstrating their academic and practical abilities in their chosen area of study.
Students who joined the Bachelor in Banking and Finance (Hons) with a specialism in Financial Technology at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. SPTM
• 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM Level or its equivalent.
