In the first year, students will acquire fundamental skills necessary for an accounting and finance professional. They will develop a basic understanding of the legal, business, and social environment in which accounting operates. Additionally, students will familiarize themselves with accounting software and enterprise resource planning software, specifically SAP, through hands-on training, and gaining practical experience with these systems.
Moving into the second year builds upon the foundational knowledge and delves into a broader range of skills in accounting and finance. Students will gain a deeper understanding of traditional areas such as management accounting, taxation, financial management, advanced corporate reporting, and forensic accounting. They will also develop technology savviness through modules like Emerging Technologies for Accounting and Finance and Data Analytics in Accounting and Finance. These skills will prepare students for independent learning, the workplace, and potential research opportunities.
During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. Students will gain hands-on experience, apply their knowledge, and develop valuable skills relevant to the accounting and finance industry.
In the third year, students will expand their understanding of finance and accounting through a sustainability-focused lens. They will explore the application of technologies and problem-solving skills, particularly after their internship experience. Modules such as Reflective Practice in Accounting & Finance and Robo Auditing & Analytics will introduce students to capstone projects and hands-on training with Robotics Process Automation (RPA) software. Students will also be exposed to the effects of decisions on the environment, society, and governance through modules such as Strategy, Sustainability, and Leadership, and Seminar in Accounting & Finance. The final year project will require students to explore an individual topic, allowing them to demonstrate their academic and practical abilities in their chosen area of study.
Students who joined the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours) at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. • 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM Level or its equivalent.
