In the first year, students in the media and communication program will gain a theoretical and conceptual framework of the discipline. They will develop a basic understanding of the media and communication industry, covering modules such as Principles of Advertising, Contemporary Media Studies, Public Relations 1 and Public Relations 2, and Marketing Fundamentals. This level aims to provide students with a solid foundation and knowledge of the context in which the media and communication industry operates.
Moving into the second year, expands upon the foundational knowledge acquired in Level 1. Students will develop a broader range of skills and a better understanding of mass media tools. They will also acquire specialized communication skills applicable to the media and communication industry. This level focuses on nurturing creativity, innovation, and independent learning to prepare students for the contemporary media environment.
During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. It provides students with practical exposure to the media and communication industry, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.
In the third year, students will leverage their previous studies and industrial experience to specialize in a particular media area. They will further develop superior skills in communication practice and innovative creative outputs. The final year project will require students to apply their expertise and skills in a hands-on media and communication project, combining knowledge gained from both the classroom and internship settings. Successful completion of the final year project demonstrates the student's ability to combine media knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking, and analytical skills to produce a personal achievement portfolio.
Students who joined the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Media and Communication Studies at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
