Embark on a transformative journey with APU University Malaysia Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies with a specialism in Financial Technology program. Explore a myriad of invaluable insights and skills, detailed below:
In the first year, students in the actuarial science program will acquire essential fundamentals in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, and Finance. Alongside these core subjects, they will also develop Business, Communication, and IT skills. This level prepares students for Level 2 of Actuarial Science study.
Moving into the second year, builds upon the core knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics, utilizing them as engines to drive complex models in the actuarial industries of Economics and Finance. Students will integrate this core knowledge to form actuarial tools and infrastructure for planning and managing purposes. They will receive actuarial-centric exposure and coaching with a focus on industrial applications. Throughout this level, students will gradually gain independence in their study and research efforts. Additionally, students will take three specialism modules (Financial Technology, Enabling FinTech, and Application of AI in Finance) to gain exclusive exposure to FinTech.
During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. It provides students with practical exposure, preparing them for real-world actuarial practices.
In the third year, students merge their knowledge and industrial experience to apply acquired skills in planning, managing, and analyzing risk. The emphasis is on evaluating the financial performance of businesses from an actuary's perspective. Students will gain an understanding of the critical roles played by actuaries, particularly in the development and pricing of insurance products. They will further enhance skills in risk management, actuarial modeling, and ratemaking. In addition to the common modules for actuarial studies, students will also take a specialism module (FinTech Risk Management and Regulations) to gain further knowledge and skills in FinTech.
Students who joined the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies with a specialism in Financial Technology at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. SPTM
• 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM Level or its equivalent.
