What you will learn in a glance?

In the first year, students in the actuarial science program will learn essential fundamentals in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, and Finance. They will acquire a strong foundation in these core subjects to prepare them for further studies in actuarial science. Additionally, students will develop business, communication, and IT skills that are crucial in the actuarial field. This level aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to progress to Level 2 of their actuarial science study.

Moving into the second year, builds upon the core knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics and applies them to complex models in Economics and Finance within the actuarial industry. Students will learn how to integrate these core subjects to develop actuarial tools and infrastructure used for planning and managing purposes. They will receive specialized exposure and coaching that is actuarial-centric, focusing on industrial applications. At this level, students are gradually encouraged to become more independent in their study and research efforts.

During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. It provides students with practical exposure to real-world actuarial practices, enhancing their understanding of the industry and preparing them for future careers.

In the third year, students will merge their knowledge and industrial experience to apply their acquired skills in planning, managing, and analyzing risks. The focus shifts to evaluating the financial performance of businesses from an actuary's perspective. Students will gain an understanding of the critical roles played by actuaries, such as in the development and pricing of insurance products. They will further develop skills in risk management, actuarial modeling, and rate-making. This level equips students with a wide repertoire of skills necessary for success in the actuarial profession.

Dual Degrees from APU and DMU United Kindom

Students who joined the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies​ at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. Entry Requirements

SPTM

• 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM Level or its equivalent.
