The International Studies program offers a comprehensive curriculum spread across six semesters.
Students begin with preparatory modules in Semester 1, which include English for academic purposes, basic entrepreneurship and business, computing skills, and a General Studies module. Building on these foundations,
Semester 2 focuses on developing professional communication skills, academic research skills, and exploring global business trends and Critical International Film Studies.
In Semester 3, students delve into core areas of international studies, including an introduction to international relations and history. They also examine political ideologies and their impact on global affairs, as well as contemporary issues and challenges in Malaysia's foreign relations.
Semester 4 continues this exploration, delving into topics such as the impact of globalization, the role of international organizations, global political systems and governments, and environmental issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.
Moving to Semester 5, students apply theoretical frameworks to real-world case studies in the international arena. They delve into international political economy, investigating how countries integrate into the global economy, and study regionalism, with a focus on Southeast Asia and organizations like ASEAN. Environmental issues remain a key area of study.
In Semester 6, students undertake an internship or industrial training for eight weeks. This hands-on experience equips them with practical skills, facilitating a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. Throughout the program, students acquire a wide-ranging knowledge of international studies, encompassing academic English, entrepreneurship, business, computing, communication skills, research skills, international relations, political ideologies, global trends, and environmental concerns.
Upon successful completion of this programme and fulfillment of requirements for credit transfer, you will be eligible to progress into Level 2 of the following degree programmes offered at APU
Students who joined the Diploma in International Studies at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. • 3 Credits in at least 3 subjects at SPM level including Mathematics, with a minimum of a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and Sejarah (History)
