The Diploma in Information & Communication Technology program provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of technology and prepares students for a career in the field.
During Semester 1, you will acquire foundational skills in mathematics, language, communication, and core information technology. You will gain an understanding of basic concepts and terminology related to technology and business management.
In Semester 2, the focus is on building upon and extending the knowledge gained in the first semester. Language and communication skills are taken to more advanced levels, emphasizing research and professionalism. You will enhance your ability to analyze and solve problems using quantitative skills, and further develop your familiarity with technology.
Moving to Semester 3, you will advance to a new level in information and communication technology. Topics covered include computer programming, databases, internet applications, and computer system architecture. With this knowledge, you will be able to utilize computing tools and techniques to solve common real-world problems.
In Semester 4, you will be exposed to more advanced development concepts, including the application of usability principles in web design and development, as well as the system development cycle. Additionally, employability skills will be introduced through the principles of IT Operations Management and concepts of Operating Systems, preparing you to provide technical support within an organization.
During Semester 5, you will deepen your knowledge of computing technology and ethical responsibilities. This includes acquiring basic knowledge of computer networks, digital security, and forensics. You will also design and implement algorithms using a second programming language and complete a Software Development Project that showcases your ability to integrate skills, knowledge, and understanding from the entire program. Multimedia techniques for business presentations and entertainment will also be covered.
Finally, in Semester 6, you will undertake an internship or industrial training for a minimum of 8 weeks. This practical experience will help you transition smoothly from the classroom to the working environment.
Upon successful completion of this programme and fulfillment of requirements for credit transfer, you will be eligible to progress into Level 2 of the following degree programmes offered at APU
Students who joined the Diploma in Information & Communication Technology at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
