The Master of Science in Computing by Research program is a specialized graduate program focused on independent research in computing. Students conduct original research under faculty supervision, leading to a thesis or dissertation. They may also take relevant coursework to deepen their understanding of their chosen field. Emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills essential for careers in computing research, academia, or industry. Graduates emerge prepared to make significant contributions to the field of computing through their research endeavors.
Students who joined the Master of Science in Computing program at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year. • Bachelor’s degree in Computing or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 3.00, or its equivalent qualification as accepted by the Senate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computing or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting a CGPA of 3.00 can be accepted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment.
• Bachelor’s degree in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 as accepted by the Senate and with relevant working experience, subject to a rigorous internal assessment.
• Bachelor’s degree in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 as accepted by the Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre-requisite courses.
This programme is conducted by research and is assessed via oral presentations and reports at various junctures, including a Proposal Defence, regular half-yearly progress monitoring at research colloquiums, Work Completion Defence, Thesis Examination and Viva Voce. Students would need to take one taught module on Research Methodology to gain the pre-requisite knowledge to effectively carry out their research. Regular discussions with the supervisors would be expected to ensure the direction of research as well as the quality and significance of the findings.
