The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Construction Engineering) (Honours) program at Curtin University Malaysia focuses on the practical application of scientific and technological principles in designing and constructing essential facilities for the community's well-being. This field encompasses a wide range of projects, including railways, harbors, roads, bridges, water supply and wastewater treatment systems, dams, tunnels, power projects, offshore structures, and commercial and industrial buildings. Successful civil engineering practice requires a solid foundation in mathematics and physical sciences, as well as an understanding of construction materials such as steel, concrete, and aggregates, along with the ability to assess structural performance under varying loads. Collaboration with other professionals, including planners, architects, and environmental scientists, is often necessary, emphasizing the social and financial impacts of civil works on society. Additionally, civil engineers need training in resource management, equipment utilization, material selection, and financial planning. The program's first year provides a comprehensive foundation in basic science skills and knowledge, particularly in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, which is common among all engineering disciplines.
