The Master of Philosophy program at Curtin University Malaysia is designed to provide an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge beyond the undergraduate honours or postgraduate diploma level, ultimately leading to the completion of a research thesis. Upon successfully completing a master's degree by research, students have the option to apply for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. A higher degree by research distinguishes itself from other postgraduate degrees by emphasizing research, which should constitute at least two-thirds of the study program. While some coursework units may be included, the core of the program involves conducting research and producing a thesis under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). The thesis must demonstrate, according to the examiners' assessment, a significant and original contribution to knowledge or understanding in any field through the discovery of new facts, formulation of theories, or innovative reinterpretation of existing data and established ideas. Additionally, it should showcase the student's ability to conceive, design, and independently execute research.

• Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor with First Class Honours or Second Class Honours within the University
