The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is a five-year undergraduate medical course launched by the Kulliyyah of Medicine since 1997. The program is structured into three phases:
Phase I consists of the first two years, focusing on integrated teaching and learning of essential basic and clinical medical sciences.
Phase II, or the Junior Clinical Clerkship in Year 3, introduces students to fundamental knowledge and clinical skills across major clinical disciplines.
Phase III, encompassing Years 4 and 5, emphasizes the consolidation of clinical experiences through Senior Clinical Clerkship in various specialties.
The curriculum integrates the Islamic Input in Medical Programme (IIMP) throughout all five years, ensuring that students are grounded in ethical and professional practices aligned with Islamic values.
Students engage in diverse teaching and learning methodologies that foster problem-solving, critical thinking, and independent learning. This comprehensive approach equips them with the necessary medical knowledge and clinical competencies, while also nurturing essential soft skills, ethics, and professionalism, preparing them to be compassionate and competent healthcare providers.
