The Doctor of Philosophy in Arabic Studies — Specific Purposes (By Research) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is a research‑only doctorate complemented by targeted audit courses designed to develop independent scholars. The programme normally requires three years of full‑time study or up to six years part‑time and offers intensive training in contemporary issues and methodologies relevant to Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP). Candidates undertake comprehensive research in areas such as professional discourse studies, curriculum design, needs analysis, materials development and evaluation, employing multimodal and mixed research methods. Graduates emerge as skilled researchers and educators capable of producing original scholarship and leading applied initiatives in ASP across academic, educational and professional contexts.
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree (honours) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and Master’s degree from the IIUM or any other accredited institution of higher learning.
