The Doctor of Philosophy in English Studies — Specific Purposes (By Research) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is a research‑intensive doctorate complemented by targeted audit courses designed to cultivate independent scholars. The programme normally takes three years full‑time or up to six years part‑time. Candidates undertake in‑depth, up‑to‑date research in key areas of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), including professional discourse analysis, curriculum design, needs assessment, materials development and evaluation, using multimodal and mixed‑method research approaches. Graduates emerge prepared to lead research, curriculum innovation and applied practice in ESP across academic and professional settings.
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree (honours) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and Master’s degree from the IIUM or any other accredited institution of higher learning.
