The Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (Clinical Specialist Training) at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is designed to develop highly skilled orthopaedic surgeons prepared for independent practice. The program emphasizes on-the-spot decision making and flexibility in managing patients with acute and complex musculoskeletal conditions, while advancing hand–eye coordination across a spectrum of equipment from basic to state-of-the-art technology. It aims to look beyond the injury to the patient’s recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society, integrating scientific theory with clinical practice in a rigorous and effective manner.
The curriculum forms the basis of postgraduate orthopaedic training in Malaysia, specifying the minimum knowledge, skills, and professionalism required of a trainee before, during, and at the end of training. The program spans a minimum of four (4) years and a maximum of seven (7) years, accommodating two potential training pathways. Upon completion, graduates are expected to function independently as a first-day specialist, as defined by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
• A Medical degree which is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Act 1971 (Act 50).
