The Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) at IMU is a six-month program that offers medical students the opportunity to explore research across various fields. Established in 2003, the BMedSc (Hons) program is an accredited three-year honors degree. The first 2.5 years are dedicated to Medical Sciences as part of the IMU Medical program (MBBS) at the Bukit Jalil campus.

Upon completion of the Phase 1 MBBS program, students are eligible to spend an additional two semesters conducting a research project and submitting a dissertation. During this period, students receive guidance in preparing research proposals, designing and executing research methodologies using various scientific tools, and performing data analysis. They also learn to present their findings and prepare their dissertation and manuscripts for publication. Additionally, the curriculum includes coursework covering various aspects of research methodology.
