Medical Imaging involves various imaging modalities and processes used to visualize the human body for diagnostic and treatment purposes, playing a crucial role in healthcare for all population groups. It is also frequently used for monitoring disease progression and treatment effectiveness. The Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons) program offered through Open & Distance Learning (ODL) is particularly suited for working adults and those seeking greater flexibility in their studies.
Students will engage deeply with subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, general pathology, radiation physics, medical radiation, x-ray techniques, clinical radiography, regional and sectional imaging, digital vascular imaging, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, imaging pathology, medical radiation science, as well as radiation safety and biology. They will also study radiation safety standards and procedures, radiographic practice, image interpretation, health statistics, and professional practice.
Teaching methods include lectures and tutorial sessions conducted on an e-learning platform. Self-instructional materials will be uploaded to the online forum prior to these sessions. Integrative teaching approaches, including discussions and seminars, will also take place online, with lecturers facilitating learning through various tools, including case scenarios. Practical sessions will be held face-to-face, allowing students to master hands-on skills. Additionally, diploma graduates are eligible for credit transfer, with their previously studied modules mapped to the program.
