The Doctor in Periodontology (DrPerio) is a three-year clinical coursework program designed to effectively integrate knowledge for the comprehensive diagnosis and management of patients requiring periodontal and implant treatment. This program also immerses candidates in a multidisciplinary health team environment, allowing them to provide holistic care utilizing the extensive knowledge gained throughout their studies.

As part of the curriculum, each student will undertake a research project in the field of Periodontology under the guidance of a research supervisor, with the results documented in a thesis and the potential for publication in scientific journals.

The program employs various teaching strategies, including seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, small group discussions, and clinical skills training through simulations on models and/or animal specimens. Students will also receive clinical training on patients for non-surgical and various periodontal surgical procedures, implant surgeries, restorations, and aesthetic soft tissue corrections. Additionally, students will conduct audits and present audit reports as part of their entrepreneurial training and may participate in community camps and projects to enhance their social responsibility.

To enroll in this program, students must have completed a one-year Master's degree in Orofacial Sciences, which includes a specific course in Periodontology, or possess an equivalent qualification. This combination of a one-year Master’s followed by a three-year Doctorate provides a specialized training pathway. Graduates of this program will be eligible to become recognized specialists in Periodontology under the Malaysian Dental Act of 2018.

Entry Requirements

• Master of Orofacial sciences with an elective in Periodontology module or an equivalent Coursework Master program.
• A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience after graduation
