We provide high-quality doctoral training for postgraduate students interested in pursuing an MPhil, MRes, or PhD. As a research student, you will collaborate with a supervisor who will guide you in your research and thesis design.

The MPhil is a shorter research degree that involves a project over one to two years, while the PhD consists of an independent, in-depth research project that allows you to develop additional skills through various training programs offered by the School. Both the MPhil and PhD are assessed through a research thesis. The MRes is typically a one-year program that combines taught modules with a research project.

You will have regular meetings with your supervisor and an annual review of your research progress. Current research areas of interest within the School include the development of climate-resilient crops, exploration of underutilized crops to enhance food and nutritional security, reduction of food waste, and more.

Entry Requirements  

• A master's degree (or international equivalent) plus, an upper second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in an agricultural, biological or other relevant science disciplines. Non-UK qualifications will be assessed against this standard.
• If deemed necessary, applicants may also be required to attend an interview.
