Research within the School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences holds both global and regional significance. Our work on environmental monitoring and management focuses on areas such as remote sensing technologies and applications, spatial analysis and visualization, geospatial technology applications in human-environment interactions, and disaster management. Another key area of interest is ecology and biodiversity conservation in tropical Asia, particularly suited to our Malaysian context. This research explores topics such as the ecology and conservation of Asian megafauna (including elephants, rhinos, and tapirs), plant-animal interactions, defaunation and its impacts on ecosystem processes, and conservation conflicts.
We also have expertise in the hydrobiogeochemistry of lake and river environments, hydrological modeling, atmospheric science, agroforestry, and landscape ecology.
We provide high-quality doctoral training for postgraduate students interested in pursuing an MPhil, MRes, or PhD. As a research student, you will collaborate with a supervisor who will guide you in your research and thesis development. The school has strong connections with the University’s ‘Mindset’ Research Centre, which fosters and conducts cross-faculty interdisciplinary research on tropical environmental issues. We welcome research projects related to our core areas of environmental technology development and ecology, as well as biodiversity conservation in tropical Asia.
Applicants must have graduated from an approved university.
For other qualifications and certificates please contact our educational consultants or submit your application for Admission assessment.
