The Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology by Research Mode at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) is tailored to prepare postgraduates for careers in both academia and non-academic fields that require extensive research training. This research-intensive program aims to equip students with critical knowledge to evaluate contemporary issues across various psychology domains.

Graduates will develop the skills necessary to conduct and manage advanced, independent research, contributing significantly to original knowledge and professional practice in psychology. Working closely with faculty supervisors, students will engage in specialized, often multidisciplinary research projects that culminate in a written dissertation and a final oral examination.

The program emphasizes the effective use of technology to support research activities and the clear communication of findings to peers, scholarly communities, and society. Additionally, students are encouraged to pursue lifelong learning, driving their research contributions ethically and professionally. The faculty and postgraduate students employ a diverse range of research methodologies, including traditional quantitative and qualitative techniques, as well as mixed-methods and community-engaged research approaches.

Entry Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Psychology with a CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent (Level 7 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) as accepted by the HEP Senate.
