The Bachelor of English Language and Linguistics program at Universiti Malaya (UM) is designed to produce graduates who excel in language and linguistics, particularly in English. The program prepares students to be competitive in their careers and responsible members of society, instilling strong ethical values.

Graduates will develop leadership capabilities, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in information management, enabling them to contribute positively to their communities. Upon completing a total of 127 credits of study, students are awarded the Bachelor of English Language and Linguistics degree.

Our program produces high-caliber graduates equipped for language-related professions across various sectors. In the media, advertising, and publishing industries, graduates can work as journalists, broadcasters, writers, editors, copywriters, and proofreaders. In marketing, banking, and tourism, they may serve as administrators or junior executives. Within corporate communication, roles such as communications officer are available. In the education sector, graduates can become corporate trainers, language teachers, teacher educators, program/curriculum developers, and education managers or administrators in both government and private institutions. Additionally, opportunities exist for those interested in careers as translators and interpreters. This diverse range of career paths underscores the versatility and demand for language professionals.
