Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Process Engineering By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on applying engineering principles and practices to post-harvest operations, preservation, and processing of agricultural and bioresource materials. The program aims to optimize resource utilization and minimize losses in these processes.
Students will explore key areas such as primary processing, preservation, and storage of major agricultural commodities including grains, oil palm, cocoa, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbal materials. They will engage in the design, development, and application of chemical and physical unit operations, such as separation, extraction, purification, extrusion, drying, packaging, milling, heating, and refrigeration.
The program also emphasizes the development of new bio-based raw materials from agricultural and biological sources for food, nutraceuticals, and manufacturing. Through rigorous research, graduates will be equipped to address contemporary challenges in agricultural process engineering and contribute innovative solutions to the industry.
