Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Welfare By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an advanced exploration of the five domains of animal welfare: nutritional, environmental, health, behavioral, and mental aspects. This program empowers candidates to identify, investigate, evaluate, propose, and manage animal welfare challenges through the use of deprivation indices within these domains. 

PhD candidates will conduct in-depth research on how stressful and unfavorable environments impact animal physiology, reproduction, behavior, longevity, and susceptibility to diseases. They may also focus on developing comprehensive blood, physiological, and physical profiles to quantify animal cruelty. Additional research opportunities include assessing the welfare of wildlife by studying their behavior, environmental conditions, adaptation strategies, and survival rates in captivity.
