Doctor of Philosophy in Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) aims to develop advanced expertise in understanding biodiversity and its conservation. This program delves into critical issues surrounding biodiversity, including the effects of human activity and strategies for integrating conservation into the sustainable development of natural resources. Research areas include botany, zoology, phylogenesis, traditional and molecular taxonomy, conservation genetics, ethnobotany, mycology, and plant pathology, focusing on mycorrhiza and plant root endophytes.
Students will also investigate modern applications of traditional knowledge, biomechanistic assays of natural products from endemic species, and related disciplines such as pedobiology, malacology, parasitology, ichthyology, and entomology. The program highlights the significance of biodiversity for economic, medical, and ecotourism pursuits, ensuring that research is relevant to industry needs. Additionally, it advocates for establishing economic valuation methods for biodiversity management in alignment with the National Biodiversity Policy and global demands.
