Doctor of Philosophy in Biopolymer, Pulp and Paper Technology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) offers an advanced examination of mechanical, semi-mechanical, chemical, and biological pulping systems. PhD candidates will conduct in-depth research on fiber characterization and properties, including physical, morphological, chemical, and mechanical characteristics, as well as advanced bleaching techniques and bio-bleaching processes.

Candidates will focus on the enhancement of paper properties through various additives, the development of pulp and paper products from non-wood resources, and specialty paper products. The program also emphasizes printing technology, water and waste management, and the economics of pulp and paper mills. Additionally, students will explore recycled paper manufacturing processes, black liquor recycling technology, and pollution management. The curriculum addresses the synthesis and characterization of biopolymers from natural resources, modifications of lignocelluloses, and innovations in adhesive chemistry, surface coatings, and adhesion mechanisms, preparing graduates for significant contributions in the field.
