Doctor of Philosophy in Cancer Biology and Oncology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) offers an in-depth exploration of the mechanisms underlying the development, detection, monitoring, and treatment of animal cancers. PhD candidates will investigate the molecular pathways and molecules involved in cancer proliferation and inhibition, which will serve as potential targets for therapeutic interventions.
The program places a strong emphasis on the early detection and monitoring of cancer by identifying serum biomarkers for possible use in diagnostic kits. Additionally, candidates will research the efficacy of novel synthetic and natural anticancer compounds in canine and feline models, as well as in mice and rats with induced cancers. The development of innovative drug delivery systems is also a key focus, enhancing therapeutic outcomes. Research efforts will include both preclinical studies using laboratory animals and clinical trials with client-owned pets suffering from spontaneous cancers, ultimately aiming to contribute to the commercialization of effective cancer therapies for both animals and humans.
