Doctor of Philosophy in Database Systems By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an in-depth study of the critical importance of databases in modern information systems. This PhD program focuses on the evolution from traditional centralized-relational databases to advanced database methodologies.
PhD candidates will conduct research across several key sub-areas, such as the semantic web, a variety of database types (including centralized, distributed, parallel, mobile, multimedia, and biomedical), data quality, data warehousing, and the intricacies of query formulation, processing, and optimization. The program also emphasizes issues of integrity, integration, privacy, and security in database systems, as well as relevant applications, models, and frameworks for e-commerce, e-governance, and ontology management.
