Doctor of Philosophy in Food Biotechnology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is designed for students pursuing advanced research in food biotechnology. This program provides in-depth knowledge of relevant theories and technical expertise, enabling candidates to explore the importance of biotechnological processes in food production and bioingredients, food bioprocessing, and the analysis of food components.
Students will also investigate the modern biotechnology's contributions to food security, particularly in the production of transgenic and genetically modified foods, and the enhancement of food and food ingredients for the industry.
The curriculum addresses critical areas such as the acceptance and trade implications of genetically modified foods, regulatory issues surrounding the use of biological catalysts, and the roles of microorganisms and modified plants in food systems, preparing graduates to navigate contemporary challenges at the intersection of biotechnology and food science.
