Doctor of Philosophy in Forensic Science By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an advanced exploration of various aspects of forensic science, focusing on tissue decomposition and the environmental factors that affect it, including the role of microorganisms as indicators. This program emphasizes forensic DNA identification techniques, fingerprint analysis, and the examination of human tissues and chemical substances.
PhD candidates will conduct meaningful research to enhance current methods in forensic case identification and work on innovative projects, such as creating reconstructive digital images from collapsed structures. Additionally, candidates will explore the significant role of animals, particularly dogs trained to detect human tissues, drugs, bombs, and illegal substances. The program fosters an interdisciplinary approach, intertwining elements of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, molecular pharmacology, and toxicology, equipping graduates to make substantial contributions to the field of forensic science.
