Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics and Breeding By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an in-depth investigation into the characterization, conservation, and utilization of genetic resources, focusing on the genetic improvement of crop plant varieties, fish species, and livestock breeds. This rigorous program emphasizes the genetic inheritance of qualitative and quantitative traits, quantitative genetics, cytogenetics, and the application of molecular markers in selection programs as well as genetic diversity assessments.

PhD candidates will engage in comprehensive research in quantitative genetics, molecular genetics, or a combination of both areas. Breeding studies will encompass concepts of genetic relationships, genetic component analyses, estimation of genetic parameters, and productivity enhancement.
