Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is designed to advance knowledge in the conservation and characterization of animal and plant species. This program utilizes state-of-the-art genetic theories and methods, including genomic and proteomic advancements, to investigate biomolecular structures and their functional connections. 

Research spans the evolutionary and life histories of species, focusing on the role of genetic variation in their survival and strategies for conservation in both natural and controlled environments. PhD research projects might cover the conservation of orchid species through molecular techniques, genetic characterization of various local organisms, and molecular studies of endemic and endangered wildlife to inform biodiversity conservation efforts.

Entry Requirements

• A Master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the UPM Senate
