Doctor of Philosophy in Laboratory Animal Medicine By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an advanced study of reproduction, management, and animal welfare in laboratory settings, focusing on the prevention and control of diseases in laboratory animals, including non-human primates used in research. This program emphasizes significant diseases and their prevention and treatment modalities.
PhD candidates will engage in the development of precise and secure laboratory animal breeding and testing facilities, employing cutting-edge methods and high biosafety technologies. Research initiatives primarily target the creation of animal models, such as genetically modified and knockout species, diabetic and hyperlipidemic rats, and specialized animals for studies related to epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease. Additional research areas may encompass developmental biology, behavioral studies, xenotransplantation, and drug and toxicological testing, equipping graduates to make meaningful contributions to the field of laboratory animal medicine.
