Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Engineering By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on the advanced application of materials engineering principles for the design and development of materials tailored for industrial applications.

Students engage in in-depth investigations of the chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of various materials, including polymers, metals, ceramics, composites, and emerging materials. The program also explores advanced topics such as materials developed through nanotechnology, material synthesis and characterization, tribology, surface science, catalysis, failure design, forensic materials engineering, and innovative processing technologies. 

This rigorous research prepares students to contribute to future applications in diverse sectors, including aerospace, automotive, electronics, coatings, sensors, actuators, drug delivery, metallurgy, crystallography, metallography, and drilling fluids.

Entry Requirements

• A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the UPM Senate
