Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on the in-depth study of microscopic organisms and their applications across various scientific fields.

This program covers multiple branches of microbiology, including physiology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, ecology, and virology. Students will investigate the beneficial roles of microorganisms in industrial applications, such as the production of antibiotics, enzymes, biopolymers for medical purposes, and bioremediation of waste. Despite over 400 years of study, many microorganisms remain inadequately identified and characterized, underscoring the need for further exploration. Graduates will be equipped to make meaningful contributions to advances in microbiology research.
