Doctor of Philosophy in Nanoscience By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) delves into the advanced study of nano-sized materials, with a strong emphasis on metal nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
Scholars investigate the unique optical, electronic, magnetic, and electrochemical properties of metal nanoparticles, particularly silver nanoparticles, and their diverse applications in fields such as optical waveguides, molecular identification, and catalysis. The program underscores the significance of factors like electron density, size, and shape in influencing nanoparticle behavior.
Additionally, the research incorporates the synthesis of CNTs utilizing a cost-effective pulsed laser ablation deposition (PLAD) system, capable of producing CNTs alongside other nanomaterials including web-like Fe₂O₃ and cotton-like Bi₂O₃. To evaluate the properties of these materials, various characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, and UV-visible spectroscopy are employed. This rigorous training equips doctoral candidates with the essential expertise needed to drive advancements in nanotechnology.
• A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the UPM Senate
