Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Chemistry By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) delves deeply into the fields of natural products, organic synthesis, and oleochemistry. This doctoral program emphasizes the discovery of new bioactive compounds from Malaysia’s rich biodiversity, with a focus on analyzing plant families for their chemical properties and biological efficacy.

Research efforts are directed toward chemical derivatization and biotransformation of compounds to develop more effective and selective substances. The program also investigates the structure-biological activity relationships of synthesized organic compounds, as well as the synthesis of proteins and peptides aimed at creating peptide-antigens for drug development. In oleochemistry, students explore the utilization and synthesis of palm oil-derived oleochemicals, palm-based surfactants, and advancements in biofuels and pharmaceuticals.
