Doctor of Philosophy in Virology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provides an advanced exploration of viral agents, including their structure, classification, evolution, and the diseases they cause. This program emphasizes comprehensive research into the mechanisms by which viruses infect host cells and exploit them for replication, as well as the complex interactions between viruses and host physiology and immune systems.

PhD candidates will delve into research topics such as viral pathogenicity, techniques for virus isolation and culture, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic strategies for viral diseases. Major areas of focus include molecular virology, virus-mediated gene transfer, gene therapy, the role of cancer-causing viruses, vaccination approaches, and antiviral chemotherapy. Graduates will be equipped to contribute significantly to virology research and its applications in medical and veterinary contexts.
