Master of Science in Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on both fundamental and applied sciences of biodiversity. This program addresses contemporary issues related to biodiversity conservation, including the impacts of human activities and methods for integrating conservation into national resource development. Areas of study encompass botany, zoology, phylogenesis, traditional and molecular taxonomy, conservation genetics, ethnobotany, mycology, and plant pathology, including mycorrhiza and plant root endophytes.
Students will explore the modern application of traditional knowledge, biomechanistic assays of natural products from endemic species, as well as other fields such as pedobiology, malacology, parasitology, ichthyology, and entomology. The program emphasizes the economic, medicinal, and ecotourism value of biodiversity, ensuring that research is both comprehensive and industry-friendly. Furthermore, it promotes the establishment of methods for the economic valuation of biodiversity management, aligning with the National Biodiversity Policy and international standards.
