Master of Science in Biopolymer, Pulp and Paper Technology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on various systems related to mechanical, semi-mechanical, chemical, and biological pulping. The program emphasizes fiber characterization and properties, including physical, morphological, chemical, and mechanical aspects, as well as bleaching processes, bio-bleaching, and chemical modifications of fibers.
Students will explore the use of additives to enhance paper properties, the production of pulp and paper products from non-wood resources, and the development of specialty paper products. The curriculum covers essential topics such as printing, water and waste management, and the economics and management of pulp and paper mills.
Additionally, students will study manufacturing processes using recycled paper and black liquor recycling technology, while addressing issues of water and air pollution. The program also includes the synthesis and characterization of biopolymers from natural resources, modifications of lignocelluloses, new product developments, adhesive chemistry, surface coatings, and adhesion mechanisms.
