Master of Science in Genetics and Breeding By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on the characterization, conservation, and utilization of genetic resources, as well as the genetic improvement of crop plant varieties, fish species, and livestock breeds. This program emphasizes genetic inheritance of both qualitative and quantitative traits, quantitative genetics, cytogenetics, and the application of molecular markers in selection programs, alongside genetic diversity assessments.
Students will engage in research encompassing quantitative genetics, molecular genetics, or a combination of both fields. Breeding studies will involve concepts related to relationships, genetic component analyses, estimation of genetic parameters, and productivity improvement.
This research also includes identifying superior individuals, breeds, and varieties through both conventional methods and biotechnological approaches. Additionally, studies will touch on molecular biology, population genetics, and recombinant DNA technology, preparing graduates for impactful careers in genetics and breeding.
• A Bachelor's degree in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75
