Master of Science in Metabolomics By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) explores the study of low molecular weight molecules, or metabolites, present in cells and biological systems. This program focuses on deciphering the "metabolome," which represents the complete set of metabolites expressed within an organism. The composition of the metabolome reflects the organism's enzymatic pathways and the influence of developmental processes and environmental changes throughout its life.
Metabolomics has diverse applications in research fields such as environmental interactions, bioenergy, functional genomics, systems biology, and metabolic modeling in plants, algae, and microbes. Common technologies used in metabolomics include mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), which can analyze hundreds to thousands of unique chemical entities. Research projects in this program target both agricultural and biomedical studies, with a focus on the effects of selected plant extracts on conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
• A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate
