Master of Science in Nanoscience By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) explores the unique properties and applications of nano-sized materials, particularly focusing on metal nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
Metal nanoparticles, especially silver nanoparticles, are studied for their optical, electronic, magnetic, and electrochemical properties, with applications in optical waveguides, molecular identification, and catalysis. The program emphasizes the importance of factors like electron density, size, and shape on nanoparticle properties.
In addition, research includes the synthesis of CNTs using a cost-effective pulsed laser ablation deposition (PLAD) system, designed to produce CNTs and other nanomaterials such as web-like Fe₂O₃ and cotton-like Bi₂O₃. Various characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, XRD, and UV-visible spectroscopy, are employed to analyze the properties of these materials, equipping students with essential skills for advancements in nanotechnology.
• A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate
