Master of Science in Organic Chemistry By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on the study of natural chemical substances, organic synthesis, and oleochemistry. Emphasizing natural products chemistry, the program investigates the discovery of bioactive compounds from Malaysia’s diverse bioresources, exploring various plant families for their chemical constituents and biological activities.

Research also includes the chemical derivatization and biotransformation of targeted compounds using enzymes and microbes to enhance potency and selectivity. The program aims to elucidate the structure-biological activity relationships of synthesized compounds and involves the synthesis of proteins and peptides for drug development. Additionally, oleochemistry research focuses on the utilization of palm oil, including the synthesis of oleochemicals, production of palm-based surfactants, and development of biofuels and cosmetics.

Entry Requirements 

• A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate
