Master of Science in Parasitology By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) emphasizes principal research areas such as molecular biology and systematics, epidemiology, genetic characterization, phylogenetics, antigenic variation, and drug resistance in parasites affecting humans, companion animals, livestock, and wildlife in tropical regions. The program integrates traditional research methods with advanced molecular-based techniques to examine parasite cellular biology and interactions with their hosts and environments.
Key areas of study include genetic variation among parasites and the impact of gene expression patterns on parasitaemia dynamics, immune responses, resistance to chemotherapeutics, and cellular invasion. Research topics will focus on parasites of significant veterinary and medical importance, including emerging parasitic diseases, zoonoses, and parasites with economic implications for livestock, companion animals, and wildlife.
