Master of Science in Statistics By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on a range of statistical research areas, including Robust Statistics, Extreme Value Theory, Bayesian Modelling and Inference, Multivariate Analysis, Survival Analysis, and Time Series. The program emphasizes robust statistical techniques, particularly the development of methods for diagnosing and estimating parameters in various models when data are affected by outliers.
Students will engage in research related to robust variable selection procedures, statistical process control, and panel data analysis. The program also covers modeling extreme data using Extreme Value Theory and employing Bayesian methods to integrate prior information with sample data for statistical inference. Additional topics include multivariate techniques such as regression, discriminant analysis, and cluster analysis, along with survival analysis methods for event timing and time series modeling for forecasting. This comprehensive curriculum equips graduates with essential statistical skills for real-world applications.
