Master of Science in Wildlife and Exotic Animal Health By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) focuses on the health and well-being of wildlife and exotic animals in tropical environments. This program covers various research areas, including disease agents and pathobiology, emerging diseases and zoonosis, epidemiology, conservation medicine, and zoo animal management and welfare.
Students will engage in research projects involving diverse taxa, encompassing free-ranging wildlife, captive animals, and exotic pets. Key areas of interest for free-ranging wildlife include the human-wildlife and livestock-wildlife interface, with a focus on pathogen and vector diversity, surveillance, disease transmission dynamics, ecological determinants, and the impacts of habitat alteration. Research on zoonotic diseases in captive wildlife and exotic pets aims to understand pathogen diversity and transmission risk factors. Additionally, veterinary conservation projects will explore breeding, reproductive biology, nutrition, welfare, and captive management of endangered species.
