Master of Veterinary Science in Animal Welfare By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is dedicated to examining the principles of the five domains of animal welfare: nutritional, environmental, health, behavioral, and mental well-being. This specialization focuses on the identification, investigation, evaluation, proposal, and management of animal welfare issues, utilizing indices of deprivation across these domains.
Research in this field explores the impact of stressful and non-conducive environments on animal physiology, reproduction, behavior, longevity, and susceptibility to diseases. Candidates may undertake studies to develop blood, physiological, and physical profiles for assessing cruelty to animals. Additionally, potential research includes examining the welfare of wildlife by evaluating behavior, environment, adaptation, and survival in captivity. This program equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to address pressing animal welfare concerns effectively.
