Master of Veterinary Science in Genetics and Breeding By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) specializes in the characterization, conservation, and utilization of genetic resources for the improvement of livestock breeds. This program focuses on the genetic inheritance of qualitative and quantitative traits, quantitative genetics, cytogenetics, and the use of molecular markers in selection programs, alongside assessments of genetic diversity.
Students will undertake research that includes quantitative genetics, molecular genetics, or both areas. Breeding studies will cover concepts such as genetic relationships, component analyses, estimation of genetic parameters, and enhancements in productivity. The program emphasizes identifying superior individuals, breeds, and varieties through traditional methods as well as biotechnological approaches. Additionally, students will explore aspects of molecular biology, population genetics, and recombinant DNA technology, equipping them for advanced veterinary careers in genetics and breeding.
