Master of Veterinary Science in Wildlife and Exotic Animal Health By Research Mode at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is dedicated to enhancing the health and welfare of wildlife and exotic animals in tropical regions. This program encompasses critical research areas such as disease agents and pathobiology, zoonotic diseases, epidemiology, conservation medicine, and the management and welfare of zoo animals.
Students will participate in research projects that span a wide range of taxa, including free-ranging wild animals and captive exotic pets. Specific research interests for free-ranging wildlife focus on human-wildlife and livestock-wildlife interactions, examining pathogen and vector diversity, disease transmission dynamics, ecological factors, and habitat alterations. Investigations into zoonotic diseases in captive and exotic animals will help identify pathogen diversity and risk factors for transmission. Furthermore, veterinary conservation initiatives will address breeding, reproductive biology, nutrition, welfare, and the management of endangered species.
